zollars leaderboard

zondle hits 1,000,000 registered users

We are very proud to announce that yesterday, at 14:46PM EST (19:46 GMT), zondle gained its 1 millionth registered user!

It has been a wonderful journey to get to this milestone and we are very grateful to the teachers and students who have taken zondle to their hearts, helping us grow such a fantastic community of zondle users.

It seems that our approach – enabling teachers to create and share games to support learning, teaching and assessment, enabling students to play the questions in any games of their choosing, and grounding everything in high quality education, psychology and neuroscience research – is really meeting a need in classrooms worldwide.

What is also fantastic is how zondle is being used both in the classroom and at home, on computers, interactive whiteboards and mobile devices, for homework and preparation for tests... and in many more ways besides. Together, students have answered more than 160 million questions (15 million in the last month alone) which shows that zondle is fast becoming part of the fabric of the classroom.

So what's next?

Well, as we continue to grow, we are developing (because teachers have asked us to!) an exciting range of premium features that we will be releasing over the next few months. The first one is already available as a free trial: school settings Plus, enabling teachers to have even more control over how their students use zondle. Watch this space for future features!

The zondle Marketplace is growing too with English as a Foreign Language content, senior school Science and Computing coming on stream over the next few weeks. A current favourite in the Marketplace is the fantastic music content developed by a teacher (under the username LearnATune) especially for other teachers.

Thank you so much for all your support for zondle! We really do appreciate it and look forward to receiving any feedback to help us make zondle even better for you and your students.

Here’s looking forward to the next one million new members of the fantastic zondle community!

There are, of course, still many things that we’d like to implement in the new version, so we will continue to work hard to bring more of your fantastic suggestions into production.

Thank you all very much for your feedback and help in designing the new zondle.  Your support is greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's true, we're releasing a
totally new version of zondle!

Hopefully you'll find it a lot faster and easier to use with some great new features.

Before we officially release the new zondle interface we would love you to have a go and let us know how you get on.

The new site is in beta so there may still be a few bugs and a few parts of the site that are still to be completed.

To try the new site just log in as normal and click on the link at the top of the page.  You will be taken to the new interface.  You can go back to the original interface at any time.

We will be running both interfaces side by side for some time to come so that you can get used to the new interface before we move over to it.  If you have any suggestions then please do just get in touch.

There are a number of load of new features in the beta interface which we will tweet from @zondle and blog about over the coming weeks.

Now it’s even easier for teachers to join your school with “Teacher Join Codes”.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you to get your teaching colleagues up and running in your zondle school and we’ve always felt that the way we were doing things was a little clunky. So today we have released a new feature to make it really nice and easy to get other teachers in your school up and running on zondle.

Teacher Join Codes can be entered by a new or existing teacher to join your school. Simply unlock the school, hand out the Teacher Join Code to other teachers in your school and when they go to add their students they will be able to enter it and be added to your school instantly.

This video explains how it works:

Great new "ABRSM Grade 2 Music Theory" zondle Pack released!

We are delighted that our wonderful partner LearnATune has just added yet another great zondle Pack to the zondle Marketplace.  Here is the description:

"Learn or teach music theory the fun way with sets of questions playable in games and printable workbooks including colourful summarised topic notes and written worksheets. Play games like Bat The Rat, Space Destroyer or Penalty Shootout on a PC or mobile/tablet and track scores automatically in a Gradebook.

Available with both student and teacher licences, the latter allows both one-on-one and school teachers to set up a class (or classes) in any way they wish (level, age, instrument etc.), add an unlimited number of students and keep track of their progress in the Gradebook. The inclusion of zondle's popular zondle Team Play is great for interactive whole class lessons, where students view colourful summarised tutorial slides and split into teams to answer the quiz questions.

This pack is based on the ABRSM grade 2 syllabus and builds on the topics learnt in grade one including treble and bass clefs (including up to two ledger lines above and below the stave), time values (from semiquavers to semibreves, dotted notes, triplets plus halving and doubling), time signatures (2/4, 3/4, 4/4, common time, 2/2, 3/2, 4/2, cut common time, and 3/8), note and rest groupings, accidentals (plus enharmonics, tones and semitones), the major and minor scale (harmonic and melodic forms), key signatures and keys, numbered intervals, tonic triads, music terms and signs, as well as composing a four bar rhythm."

zondle and George Abbot Teaching School partner to support schools becoming a SCITT

George Abbot Teaching School has launched a complete solution to all Teaching Schools who want to become a SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Trainer). Delivered using technology from zondle (the fast growing ed-tech company), SCITT in a Box is available for schools via http://www.georgeabbottraining.co.uk/scitt-in-a-box/. A complementary iOS app, to allow on-the-go access, will be available on iTunes from the beginning of June 2014.

Peter Gale, Director of George Abbot Teaching School said:
George Abbot have been running a SCITT for 14 years now and have built up an amazing resource that we want to share with other schools. Providing access to the tools that allow schools to become SCITTs means that they can concentrate their time  and efforts on building great teacher training delivered in a local context with partner schools. We have found working with zondle simple and the finished product is a professional, yet simple to use, solution to the complexities of applying for and becoming a SCITT.

Ben Barton, CEO of zondle said:
With SCITT in a Box, George Abbot Teaching School have made it simple and cost-effective to become a SCITT. We are pleased that our technology will enable 24/7 web and mobile access to what is a tremendous resource for those schools wanting to progress to SCITT status.
Working with George Abbot Teaching School has been a dream. Their professionalism and high quality content demonstrate that it is schools rather than publishers that are leading the charge in developing high quality content for the education market. The partnership builds on our recent project (Computing GCSE in an app) with the examination board OCR. Together these projects demonstrate how the zondle platform provides a unique and cost-effective way to provide digital products to schools and teachers across the UK and worldwide.

SCITT in a Box launches on 20th May and is available to all schools in England and Wales. For more details please see the attached Letter to Schools.

This simple whole class teaching tool enables you to use your zondle topics to turn your classroom into a game show within moments. It is designed to be the easier to use little brother of zondle Team Play.  Many of the features are exactly the same, so it should be very familiar to those who already use zondle Team Play. :)

Features include:
Today we added the ability for questions to be displayed directly on student devices. Here is how that works.

New Feature: Topic filtering in the gradebook

New feature. Support filter to make it quick and easy to find support tutorials.

We’re very aware that teachers are using zondle in a live class environment where things move quickly and there is little time.  Even the slightest delay can stop the class in its tracks and prevent learning from taking place.

For this reason we have always been very keen to not only optimise the web experience itself so that the site works quickly and without fuss, but also to offer an excellent level of support so that if you do come unstuck you know that you can always have a problem resolved very quickly.  We believe this is critical to the success of any classroom tech and we pride ourselves in this area.

We’re at hand on email and in the forum, but the fastest way to get support is to find the support tutorial yourself, at the moment you need it.  So today we’ve released a very simple filter feature in our support section so that you can get to the support items you need within a few seconds and get your students back on task.

This video shows how that works.

Reward behaviour directly from the zondle gradebook

We had a request from a teacher the other day asking if we could add the new “behaviour rewards” system into the gradebook as well as having it in the zollars leaderboard.  We have now done this and this video shows how it works.  Any feedback is, of course, very welcome.

The “Connect to zondle” edmodo app is now internationally available!

Today we are delighted to be able to say that the wonderful team at edmodo have now released their premium app store internationally.  It’s been a great deal of work for them and we are very grateful as this now means that the “Connect to zondleedmodo app can be purchased from anywhere in the world.
The benefit of using the “Connect to zondleedmodo app is that class management is done within edmodo.  So if you use both edmodo and zondle this means that you only have to manage your classes in one place which makes life easier.

This video explains how that works.

We hope this is useful and look forward to any feedback you may have :)

New feature: changing the admin teacher for your zondle school

Every zondle school has an admin teacher who is responsible for accepting or declining applications from other zondle users to their zondle school as a teacher.  This process is critical to give the personal validation to any teachers joining the school.

By default the admin teacher is the teacher who originally set up the school.  However, this is not always the best person for the job and so we now provide a quick and easy way to change the admin teacher to any of the teachers in your zondle school.

This video shows how this works.
